Frameless glazing structure

Fully opening frameless glazing system came from Scandinavian region and has already become popular in Lithuania. This kind of glazed balconies do not have any vertical profiles between glasses, therefore the balcony looks esthetically both inside and outside and do not damage the facade image. Thus this system gains undeniable advantage. All moving parts of glass have been manufactured by using shatterproof glass, moves in one plane easily and can be opened inside the balcony as the pages of the books. Therefore, not only the exploitation but maintenance is convenient as well – in order to clean the glasses it is enough to open them and clean them in a convenient and safe manner. This kind of balcony can be opened 100 percent !!!

Advantages of building glazing

This frameless glazing system has many advantages when performing the reconstruction of building façade. Glasses protect the balcony parts, which are usually open, from environmental impact and significantly increases the features of thermal insulation. Less snow and rain get inside so the amount of humidity, which gets inside the building structure, decreases. The system of balcony glazing reduces the traffic noise 8-12 decibels.

Advantages of glazing systems for inhabitants

This kind of glazing protects the balcony from snow, water and dust. It will be warmer inside the balcony and the noise will be reduced. The parts of the glasses open inside therefore their maintenance will not cause any problems. This system is also safe for children: glazing sections for ventilation may be blocked so that children couldn’t open them. This kind of balcony glazing can not be opened from outside. Solid aluminum profiles and shatterproof glass increases the security.

Places of application

The system of balcony glazing is the best solution for the glazing of balconies and loggias in newly and old-built blocks of flats. This frameless glazing system is also used for the glazing of terraces, verandas and tambours. By using this system you can easily save the building façade and create comfort and coziness in balconies.

Operational principles

On the outside this system of balcony glazing looks like one-piece wall without vertical struts. Glass sections move with wheels in the upper and lower aluminum rails. The balcony can easily be opened by moving the glass parts to one side or just turning them to the wall, where they fold together as the pages of the book. Thus they take up little space and become immovable even in strong wind. Each section part may be easily cleaned without causing danger to one’s life.

Fixing

Aluminum profiles are durable and resistant to atmosphere impacts. Upper and lower are the main aluminum profiles, which are safely fixed to the structures of balcony. The upper ALU profile is fixed to the upper overlaying plates, meanwhile the lower profile is to the partition of balcony (armrest). This kind of installation allows saving the current partition of the balcony without changes. The main profiles to the concrete of masonry surface are fixed with screws M8, to the steel and aluminum structures – with stainless steel screw fixing elements.

Glass

In this system a 6-8 mm shatterproof glass is used. The edging of extremely solid glass are polished therefore during transportation of product the maximum safety level is reached. There is no need to install glasses into additional frames or fix with shock-resistant films. When the glass breaks it falls to small pieces. This protects people from cuts, which can occur using a simple glass. There is a ventilation gap of 1-3 mm between the glasses. Standard width of the glass is from 500 to 700 mm, which is determined in accordance with a specific situation in the object. Horizontal holders or rollers protect glass elements from bending in strong wind. Glasses to the upper ALU holder are fixed with elastic polyurethane glue and clinched with stainless steel clinches. Safe shatterproof glass of 6-8 mm complies with the requirements of standards SFS-2728 and DIN-1249. Standard colors of the glass: transparent, matt, bronze, grey, smoky. The glasses of other colors are available according to special order.

Profiles and special parts

Aluminum profiles are painted with powder in accordance with RAL color catalog.

All metal fixing details are manufactured from stainless steel.
Rollers and other parts affected by friction are manufactures from plastic of greater resistance.

 

Technical data
  • Upper and lower aluminium steering profiles height is ~5 cm.
  • Each glass panel is supported by four horizontal ball-bearing rollers on the hinged beam.
  • Standard locking is a latch, in addition it is possible to install a children safety lock.
  • Every glass is equipped with handle.
  • Attached to concrete and stone walls with M8 brass anchors, tensile strength from the wall of up to 2.5 kN. Attachment to steel and aluminium constructions via threaded connectors or rivets.
  • Glass panels are attached to the frame profile with four stainless steel rivets and elastic polyurethane glue.
  • There are several different possibilities for installation. The construction system is suitable for connecting with other similar systems.

STEP 1

The frameless balcony glazing system consists of upper and lower aluminum steering profiles and tempered glass panels with rollers. The construction of rollers and profiles allows the glass panels to be moved between the profiles one after another.

To open the first glass panel, the lower handle has to be freed with one hand while simultaneously using the other hand to open the “child lock” located above. Pull the string downwards and open the first glass panel 90 degrees to the inside.

The first glass panel can also be used for ventilation only by using the ventilation position holder and locking the panel with locking pin in the second or third hole.

 

STEP 2

The next glass panel can be moved into the place of the first panel of glass and once again turned 90 degrees to the inside. The panels of glass will slide the smoothest in profile if they are moved from the centre.

The upper and lower roller attached to the glass panels will come through the opening holes in the steering profiles. The opening of the next glass panels can be done in the same manner.


 

STEP 3

In general, the glass panels can be opened as pages of a book inside the balcony and the balcony can be fully opened.

When having all the glass panels opened, fasten them together with a “wall link” to prevent accidents caused by wind.

In order to close the balcony glazing system, do the previously mentioned steps in the reverse order and push the opening handle back to the closed position.


 

MAINTENANCE MANUALS

STEP 1

It is easy to wash the glasses from inside when they are in the closed position and from outside when they are 90 degrees opened. The glasses can be washed with normal domestic glass cleaning detergents which do not contain alcohol.

 

STEP 2

It is recommendable to apply a silicon spray on rollers once a year in order to ensure smoother sliding of the glasses.

The lower steering profile should be cleaned from inside of the accumulated dust and dirt at least once a year. Washing of the profiles with a damp cloth is sufficient for external maintenance.
